MI Make It 15-0 While Defending 200+ Targets

Mumbai Indians (MI) once again proved why they are masters of defending big totals. They successfully defended a 200+ target for the 15th time in IPL history — maintaining a perfect 15-0 record.

So far, no team has chased more than 196 runs against MI, a record set by Rajasthan Royals in 2020.

Moreover, Delhi Capitals (DC) also hold an unbeaten streak while defending 200+ scores. They’ve won 13 out of 13 matches when defending such totals. However, this match was different — DC were chasing and fell just short.

Karun Nair’s Comeback After 2520 Days

Karun Nair smashed a brilliant fifty against MI — his first IPL half-century since 2018. That’s a gap of 2520 days, the longest between two 50+ scores by any batter in IPL history.

Interestingly, Nair had only six innings during this long break. The previous record was held by Travis Head (2516 days) before his recent return in IPL 2024.

DC Collapse After Strong Start

At one point, DC were cruising. After 11.3 overs, their win probability was 83.7%, needing just 71 off 51 balls with 8 wickets in hand.

Even by the end of the 13th over, DC looked in control with a 70.84% win chance. However, things changed dramatically after the ball was replaced. They lost 6 wickets for only 48 runs, handing MI a thrilling victory.

Historic Triple Run-Outs Stun DC

In a bizarre moment, DC lost three wickets to run-outs on three consecutive balls. This is the first time in IPL history that such an event has happened.

Globally, it’s only the fifth time in men’s T20s where three run-outs have fallen on successive deliveries. This rare incident turned the game completely.

Tilak Varma’s First Match-Winning Fifty

Tilak Varma played a crucial knock of 59 runs, finally ending on the winning side. Surprisingly, each of his previous seven fifties in the IPL came in losing causes. This time, however, his performance helped MI clinch a vital win.

Bumrah vs Nair: A Rare Battle in Powerplay

Karun Nair scored 26 runs off just 9 balls against Jasprit Bumrah — all in the powerplay. This is the most anyone has scored against Bumrah in that phase in a T20 match, based on available ball-by-ball data.

DC’s Winning Run Comes to an End

Delhi Capitals came into this match with a five-match winning streak, including four from IPL 2025 and one from IPL 2024. This was their best-ever run in the tournament.

So far, only Rajasthan Royals in 2015 have managed to win the first five games of an IPL season.
