Rahane Blames KKR’s Batting After Loss to GT

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane addressed the team’s ongoing batting struggles following their 39-run defeat to Gujarat Titans at Eden Gardens on Monday. Chasing a target of 199, KKR ended their innings at 159/8, with another poor performance from the opening pair.
Target Was Achievable, Says Rahane
“I thought 199 was chaseable, we came back into the game really well with the ball,” said Rahane after the match. “You expect good opening starts, but that’s what we’re struggling with throughout the tournament. We need to learn as quickly as possible.”
KKR’s bowlers kept them in the contest by pulling things back in the middle overs. However, the batters once again failed to deliver under pressure.
Middle-Overs & Fielding Also a Worry
While praising the bowling unit for their improvement, Rahane admitted the batting unit has been falling short, especially in the middle overs. “The pitch was a little slow, but we thought 200 was gettable. No complaints from the bowlers; we just didn’t bat well.”
He also emphasized the importance of fielding. “Fielding is something in our control. Saving 15-20 runs can make a huge difference. It’s all about attitude,” he added.
Mindset the Key in T20 Cricket
Rahane stressed on mental strength and positivity. “This format is about being brave. You can’t dwell on the past. Think about scoring runs and hitting boundaries. If you fear getting out, it will happen.”
